poledance

Motivation

One of the things I like to do in my spare time (like while riding the bus home after work), is look at videos of people who are way more advanced than me at pole and try to break down their movements. It's a strategy that I've done for years, dating back to my dance days, when I was able to pick up choreography much quicker by analyzing the movements that were being done and trying to mimic them. Anywho, while doing this today, I thought of the performance that made me want to do pole/aerial in the first place: the Michael Jackson Cirque de Soleil performnce. Seeing how the woman commanded the stage and beautifully executed each trick left me in awe. So today, I decided to take a look at the performance again and see what moves I could actually do and what moves I should aspire to.

Here is a video of the performance:

I deducted that I can solidly do about 15% of the tricks that the performer can do and can kinda do another 5%. So... I've decided to use this performance as my goals marker so that I have something tangible to work towards for the year for myself personally. So bear with me, as I'm sure there will be tons of fabulous outtakes of me attempting to do something that is way above my pay grade. But hey- isn't that why we all start doing Pole anyway?

What motivated you to get into pole?

Xoxo.
